Career

Obama served on the boards of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago from 1994 to 2002. From 1995 to 2002, he served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and from 1995 to 1999, he served as the founding president and chairman of the board of directors.

In 2007, Obama’s law license became inactive. In 1996, he was elected to the Illinois Senate, succeeding Alice Palmer, the Democratic State Senator from Illinois’s 13th District. Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation that reformed ethics and health care laws once elected.
