Career
Larry enrolled in the computer science program at Stanford University after graduating from the University of Michigan. Larry Page focused on the problem of finding out which web pages linked to a given page, considering the number and nature of such backlinks as valuable information for that page.
Sergey Brin, a fellow Ph.D. student joined Larry on the project called “Backrub”. They created a paper titled “The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine” together. At that time, the paper became the most downloaded scientific document in the history of the internet.
The computing resources required to crawl such a beast were well beyond the usual bounds of a student project. The idea’s complexity and scale lured Brin to the job. The next logical creation was a search engine to display results, after developing a crawler and an algorithm.
In 1998, Larry and Sergey incorporated Google as a private enterprise with the initial domain name of Googol after getting kicked off campus for using up too many University computer resources.
Larry Page announced that he will step down from the position of Alphabet CEO and would be replaced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai on 3 December 2019. Pichai will also continue as Google CEO.
