Michael Louis Diamond was born on 20 November 1965, in New York City. He went to the artistic Saint Ann’s School as well as the Walden School in New York City.

Diamond co-founded the band The Young Aborigines in 1979, at age 14. The band’s friend and supporter Adam Yauch, called MCA, joined in 1981, and at John Berry’s suggestion, they changed their name to the Beastie Boys.

Mike D and his colleagues joined pop icon Madonna on tour, but the pairing was a bad mismatch because Madonna’s  female fans criticized Michael and his team as boisterous and noisy.

The Beastie Boys left Def Jam and joined Capitol Records. The trio went back into the studio in 1988 and came up with Paul’s Boutique, their second album, which was more artistically developed. It was released on July 25, 1989, and it peaked at number 14 on the US Album Charts.

“Check your Head,” which was released in 1992, reached its highest point on the Billboard 200 and was certified double Platinum in the US.

More than 40 million records by The Beastie Boys have been sold worldwide, with seven of those albums earning the platinum label.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted Mike D and his band in 2012.  They’ve been nominated for a few Grammys and have taken home three, including Best Pop Instrumental Album for The Mix-Up in 2008.
