Early Life/Education

Mohammed-Sani Abdulai was born on 2 May 1956 in Yendi in the Northern region of Ghana. He was admitted to Tamale Senior High School in 1969 to pursue his SC/GCE Ordinary Level Qualification, which he completed in 1974 while majoring in the sciences. Tamale Senior High School is now known as the Government Secondary School. He then went on to Bawku Senior High School to obtain his GCE Advanced Level Program, which he eventually finished in 1976.

Following the completion of his high school education, he was enrolled at the University of Cape Coast in 1976 and pursued a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a physics minor. He graduated from this program with honors. In 1980, he completed a program at the same university and earned a diploma in mathematics education.

Career

His enthusiasm for information technology began at the university’s Computer Center, where he was hired after completing his studies there in 1980 to work as a faculty intern. Dr. Abdulai graduated from both the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

In Ghana, Abdulai served on a lot of boards and committees connected to information and communications technology, including the National Communications Authority and the National ICT Policy and Planning.

From 1994  to 2007, he served as a lecturer at Ashesi University, GIMPA, the National College of Banking, and the University of Ghana.

He oversaw research, innovation, and development at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT from 2007 to 2012.

At the Madina Institute of Science and Technology and the University of Professional Studies in Ghana, he was in charge of institutional research, innovation, and development.

In order to use informatics for accelerating the development of the African continent, he established the African Centre For Development Informatics in 2015.

Professionally, he belongs to the Ghana Science Association and IEEE Computer Society.

Since 2017, Dr. Abdulai has chaired the Ghana Hajj commission’s Information Services and Technology department.

In 2021, he was chosen to lead the organization as its president thus becoming the successor of Abdulai Salifu Asuro.

Personal Life

Abdulai is married to Zainab together they have five children.
