Career

Sawiris joined the Orascom company in 1982 and handled the construction activities of Orascom Construction. After the business was established in 1998, he was appointed CEO of Orascom Construction Industries.

Following OCI SAE’s 2004 acquisition of a 50% ownership in the business, he served on the Besix board and as a member of the nominations and compensation committee until 2017.

After OCI NV bought OCI SAE, the original parent company, in January 2013, he was appointed CEO of OCI NV.

Through his investment firm NNS Holding Sàrl Luxembourg, it was revealed in October 2015 that Sawiris had purchased a stake in Adidas AG.

In 2016, Adidas AG in Herzogenaurach, Germany, named him as a supervisory director.

Following the acquisition of a 55% controlling stake by NSWE, a corporation jointly owned and managed by Sawiris’ organization NNS and American billionaire Wes Edens.

It was declared in July 2018 that Sawiris would succeed Tony Xia as chairman of Aston Villa F.C.

Avanti Acquisition Corp., a special-purpose acquisition firm, was created by Sawiris in October 2020.
