Career
Austin was 21 years when he began working at Gold and Silver. While he was still in high school, in 2012, Austin founded Luminar. In 2013, Russell won $100,000 from the Thiel Fellowship.
The company’s first five years were spent in stealth mode. Russell engineered and manufactured Luminar’s lidar components himself, rather than purchasing components.
Chumlee started his own company selling novelty items that he designed. He became a breakout cast member as well as a fan favorite on “Pawn Stars.”
Rick Harrison bought the Austin company stake so that the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop could sell his novelty items more accurately.
In 2017, Austin launched Chumlee candy on the boulevard. In Las Vegas, it is found across the street from the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.
The day-to-day operation of the candy store was done by his brother Sage Russell. Luminar went public, On December 3, 2020, trading on the Nasdaq as LAZR.
