She then moved to Asaba, Delta State, where she completed her secondary education. She also went on to obtain a degree in Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos.

Career

Stella initially started off with a singing career in Lagos. She was a studio session singer at the Klink Studios, which was owned by Kingsley Ogoro, who was also a filmmaker. She developed her singing skill there, and vocalized for popular jingles on TV and radio stations in Nigeria then.

Her debut appearance in Nollywood was in 1992, in the movie Abused. She gained nationwide popularity in her second movie Breaking Point which was produced and directed by Emem Isong and Francis Agu, respectively. Her sterling performance in the 2006 movie, Behind Closed Doors, got her a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the African Movie Academy Award that same year.

In 2008, she was also nominee at the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for the movie Widow; she received the same award nomination again in 2009, for the movie, State of the Heart. Presently, she has starred in more than 70 movies.

Stella is a co-founder of I2radio, and presents two podcast shows, When Women Praise and Undiluted with Stella Damasus.

Personal Life

Stella’s first marriage was in 1999, to Jaiye Aboderin. Two daughters were borne out of this marriage. Sadly, Jaiye Aboderin passed away in 2004. Three years later, Stella tied the nuptial knot again, with Emeka Nzeribe. They divorced seven months later.

The Nigerian actress got romantically involved with Nollywood film producer and director, Daniel Ademinokan. However, both parties never openly acknowledged their relationship or marriage until 2014. They legally split in 2020.

Stella Damasus is currently American-based and has been staying in the United States of America for over ten years, with her two daughters.
