Early Life

Gerard Butler was born in Scotland on 13th November 1969. He is the youngest of the three children of Edward and Margaret Butler. Gerard is of Irish and Scottish descent. When he was six months old, his family moved to Quebec, Canada. Gerard’s parents divorced a year later and his mother took him back to Scotland.

Butler attended St. Mirin’s and St. Margaret’s High School, he also attended Scottish Youth Theatre in his teenage years. Gerard studied Law at the University of Glasgow School of Law.

Gerard Butler is an avid supporter of Celtic FC, he has been supporting the club since youth. He played in a charity match for the club in 2011. Gerard has since stopped using alcohol and has stated the same in interviews. He went into rehabilitation for alcohol abuse and the use of painkillers, and he has been clean since then.
