The following year, he also released “The Fall of the Dream Machine,” “The Dark Symphony,” and “Fear That Man.” He began writing horror and suspense in the 1970s, occasionally under a pseudonym. Aaron Wolfe, Brian Coffey, Owen West, Deanna Dwyer, and David Axton are some of the names Dean has adopted. Dean released more than 30 novels within the ten-year period.

In the 1990s, Dean published more than 20 novels. The 1998 film adaptation of “Phantoms,” which starred Peter O’Toole, Rose McGowan, Joanna Going, Liev Schreiber, and Ben Affleck and received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Horror Film, was written and executive produced by Koontz.

Personal Life

On October 15, 1966, Dean tied the knot with Gerda Ann Cerra, his high school love. Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) received $2.5 million from Koontz between 1991 and 2004, and in return, they gave him a Golden Retriever named Trixie. Trixie is acknowledged as the author of three works by Dean.

Trixie died in 2007 after she was diagnosed with incurable cancer which made her develop a hole in her heart.
