The recent changes in Kanye West’s life can make it challenging (and not a little depressing) to stay current.
However, the most recent event is comparatively unimportant in terms of West headlines: Ye and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s divorce has been declared legally complete. Kanye will give Kim $200,000 per month in child support, according to the huge headline.
Although the terms of the divorce agreement calls for “equal access” for both Kardashian and West and their four children, a close source to the couple is that Kardashian will actually spend the majority of her time with them, a fact that West has acknowledged.
In a podcast interview in September, he discussed his relationship with the mother of his children and stated that she would have the children roughly “80% of the time”:
“I still counsel Kim on matters that can be helpful today because those are matters that will benefit the kids. Raising those kids is still her responsibility 80% of the time.”
In addition to his need to pay for half of the children’s educational costs and half of their personal security, West’s $200,000 part of the child support does not cover these costs (West has been seen out in public with his kids and a security detail nearby).
The agreement also includes a provision for resolving any potential parental conflicts. In the case that one of West and Kardashian fails to show up for the mediation session, the other will make the decision.
In accordance with the provisions of their prenuptial agreement, the settlement also addresses the split of property between West and Kardashian. Additionally, neither party is allowed to provide spousal support under the terms of their prenuptial agreement.
Kanye has consented to give Kim a property that is right next to the estate they formerly shared, a mansion he rather infamously bought for $4.5 million after they split up. a move that some deemed stalker-like or disturbing.
After more than a year of conflict between the former couple—during which West steadfastly refused to participate in the divorce process—a settlement was finally reached.
Kim’s patience was put to the test, but due to her cool demeanor, Kanye eventually changed his mind, a source told TMZ.
The West-Kardashian marriage is now formally over and they have finally negotiated their divorce.
